All of the Above with the Vis-à-Vis Society
Multimedia and multi-genre artists Rachel Kessler and Sierra Nelson from the Vis-à-Vis Society bring their eclectic writing and collaborative approaches to you for an action-packed, highly generative poetry writing experience. We’ll be writing together and individually in class, using such techniques as: the Scientific Method as poetic form, multiple-choice poems and graphs, dream ecology, dance instructions, Dadaist games, live poetry-science experiments, and a culminating Poetry Science Fair. We’ll draw inspiration from innovative writers such as Anne Carson, Lydia Davis, Lucia Perillo, Dan Chiasson, Pablo Neruda and Pliny the Elder, using poetic and scientific texts new and old. We will also interact with the Society’s current Hugo House gallery show. No previous poetry, science, or collaboration experience necessary; all levels welcome.
