Classes
Writers and readers are peculiar people. We hear voices. We see other people’s lives unfolding before our eyes instead of our own. We spend most of our time in our own heads, arguing with ourselves.
Richard Hugo House is a community for peculiar people, and our classes are at the heart of that community. Our students come from a variety of backgrounds and life experiences—what they all have in common is a love of language and words.
Our classes focus on generating new work and are taught by accomplished writers who are also stellar teachers. Through Hugo Classes, Classes for Teachers, ZAPP and our youth programs, we offer courses on a wide range of subjects, from poetry and performance to zine-making, memoir, blogging, novel-writing, the nuts and bolts of the publishing business and even reading seminars.
Whether you take a teen class, a workshop for teachers or a six-week course, you’ll meet other writers and readers who are just as passionate about writing—and peculiar!—as you. Welcome home.
