Hugo Works in Progress
For years Hugo House has been hosting Stage Fright, a monthly open mic reading for teen writers. But why should kids have all the fun? That's why we launched Hugo Works in Progress, a monthly literary open mic series for adults. The ground rules are simple:
1. Show up;
2. Toss your name into the lottery;
3. Get up and read when you hear your name.
The open mic begins at 7 p.m. in the Cabaret. Show up between 6:30 and 7 to add your name to the lottery. At 7 p.m. sharp, we'll close the lottery to new entries and begin drawing names. We'll keep drawing names as we go, until 9 p.m.
Reader slots are limited to five minutes. Please practice your piece ahead of time to make sure it fits within the allotted time—we have wicked loud noisemakers that you just don't want to hear in the middle of a sentence! All genres are welcome.
Oh, and did we mention that admission is free and the bar will be open?
Works in Progress occurs the first Monday of every month except July, 2011 and September, 2011 when the open mic is held on July 11 and September 12 respectively. The open mic begins at 7 p.m. with sign-up at 6:30.
