Spoken Word Camp is an intensive one-week camp for high school aged youth. Whether you’ve never read a poem out loud in your life or are a reigning slam champ, Spoken Word Camp is a place where you can develop your voice as a writer and performer, get serious feedback from your instructors and peers, and meet amazing performance poets from around the northwest.

Spoken Word Camp takes place during Seattle Public School spring break, April 15 – 20, 2013, and will be facilitated by renowned performance poets Karen Finneyfrock and Anis Mojgani. Students will have the opportunity to strut their stuff at a camp showcase on the evening of Saturday April 20 and will take home a compilation disk of their performances.

Dates: April 15 – 20, 2013

Time: Students can register for Full Day (Monday - Friday, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.) or Half Day (Monday - Friday, 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.) Lunch is provided for Full Day students, snacks will be available for Full Day and Half Day students. All students will perform at the Saturday showcase and receive a DVD of their performances.

Tuition: $30 - $350 sliding scale. Scholarships available for all youth who need them.

Spoken Word Camp students are accepted on the basis of their application and creative works sample as well as an in-person interview with Hugo House staff. We are looking for students who are excited to learn about the art of spoken word poetry; who are able to talk about their creative process and challenges; and who are ready to be contributing members of a creative environment.
