Spoken Word Camp is an intensive one-week camp for high school aged youth. Whether you have never read a poem out loud in your life or are a reigning slam champ, Spoken Word Camp is a place where you can develop your voice as a writer and performer, get serious feedback from your instructors and peers, and meet amazing performance poets from throughout the northwest.
Spoken Word Camp is composed of 20 students, and is facilitated by renowned spoken word artists who will help bring out the best in your work. Class runs 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday–Friday, with lunch and a snack provided. Students have the opportunity to strut their stuff at a camp showcase on Saturday evening and take home a compilation DVD of their stunning performances.
2014 Dates: July 7–12
Tuition: Full tuition is $350. Hugo House is strongly committed to its youth scholarship program and we have scholarships available for all students who need them. All Spoken Word Camp applicants are accepted based on their merits, regardless of their ability to pay.
