Are you a writer between the ages of 13 and 19? Do you want to build connections with published writers and get professional feedback on your work? Whether you are half way through your novel or still trying to write the first line of that poem, the Young Writers' Mentorship Project is the place for you.
YWMP supports young writers by offering dynamic, individually focused, ongoing mentorship to teens in the Seattle area. From October through June YWMP participants meet regularly with an accomplished adult mentor to pick up exercises and techniques to develop their writer’s voice, get serious feedback on their work and push, pull, nurture or cajole their writing out of its shell. Meetings take place weekly or bi-weekly for one hour at either Hugo House or another approved location.
YWMP participants and mentors are accepted on the basis of their written application as well as an in-person interview with Hugo House staff. We are looking for participants and mentors who are excited about writing; who are able to talk about their writing process and challenges; and who are ready to commit to nine months of weekly or bi-weekly meetings.
Pairs are matched according to interest and experience. This program is FREE and open to any teenagers who are dedicated to the craft of writing. All genres, forms and styles of writing welcome!
Young Writers Applications due: October 1, 2012
