ZAPP Community Outreach Intern
The Zine Archive and Publishing Project (ZAPP) is currently seeking a community outreach intern for a nine-month internship at Richard Hugo House. Under supervision of the library manager, the community outreach intern will coordinate tours, workshops and special events at the zine archive, help orient and train new volunteers and create a welcoming space for the archive's visitors during its open hours. The intern will be expected to assist the ZAPP advisory committee with new and ongoing projects. Also, the intern will be expected to engage in necessary activities for the running of ZAPP events and the archive.
The objective of the internship is to: 1. help make ZAPP sustainable; 2. learn about working in an arts & community nonprofit; and 3. produce a final art/zine project.
DURATION, APPROXIMATE HOURS AND NEXT START DATE
• Duration: nine months
• Approximate hours: 10-15 hours, 3-5 days a week, including some evenings and Saturdays. Additional hours may be requested, subject to the intern’s availability.
• Next Start Date: open until filled.
PRIMARY DUTIES:
• Coordinating, staffing and documenting community outreach for ZAPP events;
• Assisting visitors and volunteers during open hours;
• Training & leading volunteers;
• Giving tours of the archives and educating visitors about the collection;
• Assist with PR such as writing blogs, social networking & emails;
• Preparing, teaching and aiding classes at ZAPP;
• Participating in ZAPP special projects.
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:
• Love of zines, self publishing and knowledge of zine culture;
• People skills and good customer service with all diverse populations;
• Ability to keep in contact with the library manager and other staff via email and phone;
• Strong written and verbal communication skills;
• Flexibility and openness to new projects;
• Ability to take initiative, work with groups as well as work independently;
• Ability to multitask and manage multiple open ended projects.
