You write memoir or essays and are reluctant to think of yourself as the “hero” of your story. Or if you write memoir or essays and love thinking of yourself as a hero.
Can your students connect with you on social media? If so, how?
Are any of your works online and available to the public?
You can find a partial list of my publications here
What’s your teaching philosophy?
Have fun. But don’t let ’em off easy.
If you could have any famous actor read one of your pieces to you, who would it be and why?
I would want Jake and Maggie Gyllenhaal to simultaneously read my essay on being bisexual (and having the hots for both Jake and Maggie Gyllenhaal).
What are you currently working on?
An essay about my mother-in-law. (Shhh—don’t tell her.)
What’s your favorite “rule” of writing to break in your own writing?
I like to tell. Screw “showing.” Viva the personal essay!
What are you reading now? If you could pair it with a beverage (alcoholic or otherwise), what would you choose?
The Very Hungry Caterpillar. There’s not enough alcohol in the world…
