Writers Under the Influence: Richard Hugo

BannerImg_RichardHugoYou might know Richard Hugo’s name—in fact, we hear a local literary center is named after him!

Hugo was a poet deeply rooted in Seattle–he was born in nearby White Center, attended UW, and even was a technical writer at Boeing, experiences that shaped him into the great poet he became.

He became widely admired nationally and inspired countless aspiring writers, including those reading his work at this evening of influence: Washington State Book Award–winner and purveyor of the Triggering Town Review (named after Hugo’s book) Ed Skoog. Hugo House co-founder and poet Frances McCue. Wayne Horvitz, a musician who recently created an entire album based on Hugo poems. And Barbara Earl Thomas, a Seattle writer and painter.

The event is free, the bar is open, and books will be for sale by Elliott Bay Book Company.

Wayne Horvitz’s participation in the event is supported by:
