In this eight-week cross-genre course, we'll explore modern interpretations of "monsters." From novellas and short stories, to film, TV, and graphic novels, we'll dive into contemporary horror and examine the mirror it holds to these strange times, while developing ideas and writing of our own.

ADDITIONAL CLASS DETAILS:

  • This class includes:
    • Craft Discussion: teachers and students explore essential elements of the craft.
    • Reading: class engages in close study of one or more works.
    • Generative Writing: students create new work during class or from assignments.
    • Workshop: students submit work for critique from the teacher and class.
  • Feedback in class: Both peer and instructor feedback given.
  • Work outside of class: 2-3 hours of writing or reading outside of class.

Andrew Bell

Andrew Bell is an award-winning filmmaker, writer, and educator from the Pacific Northwest. His short film work has played at festivals worldwide and is broadcast internationally on ShortsTV, BloodydisgustingTV, and streaming on CryptTV. He is currently working on his first feature film and doing what he loves most—mentoring young writers, actors, and filmmakers. He holds an MFA from Columbia University.
