You already have a basic understanding of poetry and have written some poems you’re proud of. Now you want to stand back in order to understand and develop what makes your poems tick—to answer how you combine your very particular subject matter with the elements of poetry in order to write poems in your own style. We’ll read and discuss one poem per class to expose you to different types of contemporary poetry, then devote the majority of class time to workshopping your poems in a supportive atmosphere. You will also receive weekly writing assignments.
Due to COVID-19, all classes will take place online-either through Zoom or through Wet Ink, our asynchronous learning platform-through Spring quarter 2021.
All times are listed in Pacific Time.
