Quick, Be Funny: A Humor Writing Workshop

All Levels | Being funny on a blank piece of paper is one of the hardest things to do—and yet all the great writers can do it. How? What can you learn from them? We will look at great short pieces of humorous writing—by writers like Dorothy Parker, Zadie Smith, Maria Semple, and Lindy West—and talk about how those writers did it (all while making it look so easy). Then, we’ll complete short exercises to allow you to try your hand at various strategies for deploying humor in your own work.

Due to COVID-19, all classes will take place online-either through Zoom or through Wet Ink, our asynchronous learning platform-through the end of 2020.

All times are listed in Pacific Time.
