Starting a Young Adult Novel

We will begin our day by looking at the openings of three to four diverse YA novels, among them John Green’s The Fault in Our Stars, Gayle Forman’s If I Stay, Nina LaCour’s Hold Still, and/or Libba Bray’s A Great and Terrible Beauty. We’ll weave craft issues into the discussion, concentrating on character development and voice. You will leave with a number of prompts for getting started.

Due to COVID-19, all classes will take place online-either through Zoom or through Wet Ink, our asynchronous learning platform-through Spring quarter 2021.

All times are listed in Pacific Time.
