Write Like a Nerd: Footnotes & Lists

All Levels | Once considered a boring pilgrimage to the bottom of the page, the footnote can be a hilarious and playful tool for poetry, as shown by writers such as Lindy West, Elena Georgiou, and Jenny Boully. In this highly generative course, we will study the footnote and all its possible uses while also looking at how lists—numerical, alphabetical, pro/con, grocery, to-do, etc.—can offer a rigorous foundation with which to go wild upon and blend writing spectrums.

Cody Pherigo

Cody Pherigo is a queer writing animal whose studies at Bent Writing Institute and Goddard College convinced him that poets uproot politicians. He is a writer-in-residence with the WITS program at Seattle Arts & Lectures. Born with meconium stuck in his throat, he has been extracting it ever since.
