Leadership Transition at Hugo House

Dear Hugo House Community Members,

I am writing to share an important update regarding Hugo House’s leadership. Our Executive Director Diana Delgado has resigned from her position effective April 1, 2024. We are grateful for the many ways in which Diana has strengthened Hugo House during her tenure and we are sad to see her go.

Diana joined Hugo House as Executive Director in May of 2023. I think it is important to recognize a few of Diana’s accomplishments during her tenure: re-establishing in-person classes and programs, creating a more sustainable infrastructure for the organization, and acting as a catalyst for change that will support Hugo House’s next chapter. Diana’s invaluable skill and leadership have been an incredible asset to this organization over the past ten months, and we are deeply grateful for her time here.

The Board is taking time to carefully consider the next steps for the organization as we search for new leadership. Hugo House has experienced several challenges over the past few years, and we want to be deliberate in deciding our next course of action. We will continue to be communicative with you, our community, as a plan is developed.

It’s important to note that our spring classes will continue as planned. The spring catalog is available for browsing at hugohouse.org now, and registration starts for members on March 12 and for the general public on March 19.

At this moment of transition, the Board of Directors remains committed to the mission that has guided the organization since its founding twenty-five years ago. Hugo House continues to be a place for everyone who loves books or has the drive to write. I want to reassure you that Hugo House will continue to hold classes and programs and work to serve the needs of our community.

Thank you to the Hugo House community for your warm welcoming of Diana, and for your continued support of the organization. We understand that you may have feedback you’d like to share with us, and we want to provide space for that. You can send responses to us board@hugohouse.org. Due to personnel capacity, we may not be able to respond to every message, but please know that we will read any feedback we receive.

I look forward to sharing more with you soon.

Sincerely,

Gary Luke
President, Hugo House Board of Directors
