Line Breaks: Tools of Musical Notation
Genres: Poetry
Online
Intermediate
1 Session
Join us to learn how line breaks create and affect the melody of the poem—and are a tool for building a musical score. You'll learn how line breaks can direct your poem's pace, energy, and meaning. Through in-class exercises and discussion, you'll not only start to notice your own habits with the line, but you'll discover new options on where to break the line. Bring a free verse poem (fourteen or more lines) you wrote that could benefit from stronger line breaks.
