Read, Write, Repeat: Writing Short Stories [Paul Michel]
The short story is considered the most challenging fiction form. Fortunately the methods for learning its craft are simple: read and write. A lot. We’ll split our time between our own work and close study of writers such as Anton Chekhov, Guy de Maupassant, and Alice Munro, plus other classics, forgotten gems, and new surprises from contemporary journals and e-zines. We’ll discuss both readings (done at home) and ongoing drafts of our own work in class, with examples, prompts and exercises to kick-start discussions.
