Twisted Fairy Tales

Fairy Tales often reflect the cultural norms of the time period they are written in, and students in this class will read two different versions of Rapunzel by the Brothers Grimm, one from their first edition and one from their final edition, to assess why the authors made the changes they did, based on changing cultural norms of the day. Students will then choose from a selection of classic fairy tales, which adhere to traditional values associated with the genre, to “twist” and re-write it so that it more closely aligns with their own cultural norms, beliefs, values and interests.
