Hybrid Points of View

Intermediate | Can a work of fiction attain more than one “central consciousness” by combining different points of view? How might hybridizing first, second, or third-person increase the richness of a text, or undercut the ego of a story? This class will explore these questions, studying examples by authors such as Jennifer Egan, Claire Vaye Watkins, and Junot Díaz. Prospective students should have a basic understanding of how to manage point of view in fiction.

Due to COVID-19, all classes will take place online-either through Zoom or through Wet Ink, our asynchronous learning platform-through Winter quarter 2021.

All times are listed in Pacific Time.
