Book Launch Party for Shin Yu Pai’s AUX ARCS
Celebrate the release of Seattle poet Shin Yu Pai’s eighth collection, Aux Arcs, at Hugo House on Sept. 4. Coming from the French phrase referencing the Ozarks and literally meaning “of or from Arkansas,” the title Aux Arcs simultaneously stands for Pai’s time working in the South as well as her own personal “arc in the river.” The book covers topics from cartography to race relations in a small town, looking also at global upheaval and politics alongside quotidian family life and relations.
Pai will read from her book, and Whiting Tennis, the book cover’s artist, will play an acoustic set to open.
“Aux Arcs is a book you’ll want to visit, like the best museums, again and again, letting the ideas and images of prior reads inform and enhance your future tours.” — Chip Livingston
