Works in Progress is Hugo House's open mic series, celebrating diverse storytelling formats and crafts. The next event will take place on Tuesday, June 11 at Hugo House, featuring a special collaboration with Poetry in Public: Places of Landing, a project by 4Culture and King County Metro.

In addition to opening our stage for anyone eager to read, we will host some of the Poetry in Public writers and invite them to share their 50-word poems about Places of Landing. This theme embraces the poetry of our daily lives and honors the movements, places, and feelings that tell the stories of our days.

With Poetry in Public poems now displayed in transit, we encourage Hugo House writers to bring and read pieces inspired by the Places of Landing theme or any other source of inspiration, fostering connections between both of our literary communities.

Works in Progress provides a low-pressure, welcoming environment for readers and guests of all skill levels and literary experience. We especially encourage BIPOC, LGBTQIA2S+, and other marginalized voices to take the mic!

Doors open at 6 pm PST for interested writers who want to come early, carve out some sacred writing time, and share ideas on craft and content. This open, unstructured space is intended to create opportunities for folks to build community and enjoy some quality time writing their own works-in-progress!

Open mic begins at 7 pm PST.

Reading Rules:

  • Reading is open to all!
  • You don’t have to read. Guests and audience members are encouraged to attend!
  • Sign-up for reading begins on-site when doors open at 6 pm and continues until all slots are taken.
