Ask a Poet with Rick Barot

Join poet Rick Barot for a free one-hour writing Q&A. Rick will offer some of his expert tips, tricks, and advice on the art and craft of writing poetry—things he’s honed over the publication of his books. Come to the call with questions about your work-in-progress or for ideas about how to get started.

Registration is limited, so RSVP at the “Tickets” link today. If you RSVP but cannot make the event, please notify our registrar at lily@hugohouse.org so we can open that space to another participant.

Rick Barot is the author of a chapbook and four books of poetry, most recently The Galleons (Milkweed Editions, 2020)—listed on the top ten poetry books for 2020 by the New York Public Library, a finalist for the Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association Awards, and longlisted for the National Book Award. He has received fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Artist Trust of Washington, and elsewhere, and his poems and essays have appeared in numerous publications, including Poetry, the Paris Review, the New Yorker, and The Best American Poetry 2012, 2016, and 2020. Barot is the poetry editor of New England Review and teaches at Pacific Lutheran University.
