This is a generative class for writers seeking to learn how to make comics and/or use drawing as a creative tool for improving their writing. In the first half of the course, students will practice ways to access ideas visually, allowing the writing part of their brains to take a back seat. This will include character development through drawing, using dreams and photographs to grow narratives, and learning specific techniques to create space within drawings. In the second half of the course, students will continue to develop drawing skills and will complete one or two short stories generated from drawing. Throughout the class, the instructor will carve out time to meet one-on-one with students, especially when the class begins making short stories.
