Creating Suspense
Genres: Fiction

4 Sessions
Often, we think withholding information creates suspense, but readers easily see through that trick. This class unpacks craft techniques key to the suspenseful delivery of information. Students will generate and share new work while we read from contemporary masters of mystery like Percival Everett, Mariana Enriquez, Stephen King, and Rumaan Alam. Students can expect to leave with one new story draft or the beginning of a longer project, or they may use this class to work on a project already underway.
