Creatures of the Sea: Creative Writing Experiments [Sierra Nelson]
LOCATION UPDATE: Both sessions will now take place at Hugo House. Please see updated note in course description for more information.
All Levels | What sensory approaches can we learn from an octopus, expanding the possibilities of imagery? What makes our words school like fish? When might a piece need one gigantic claw? How can our creative work be used to help save our watery planet? This generative class provides eclectic prompts using poetic and scientific sources for inspiration. Most writing happens in class, culminating in a portfolio of at least five new pieces. All genres welcome; no previous marine biology knowledge required. Note: Both weekend sessions of this class will meet at Hugo House, with an optional weekday tour (exact time TBD) of the UW Fish Library, the largest ichthyology collection in North America, to deepen the writing experience.
