(Line) Breaks, Breakage, & Enjambment
Genres: Poetry

When engaging with history, how we (de)construct the circumstances will shape the tone. The utilization of line breaks, breakage, pauses, and enjambment isolate the minutiae so we can clearly see all pieces of the puzzle, even those previously hidden. In this generative class, we will use Shane McCrae's The Gilded Auction Block and Evie Shockley's the new black as mentor texts, unpacking how they overload their lines through distortion and force the reader to bear witness through a new lens.
