Love, Text, and Poems from the Fall [Sierra Nelson]
Keats falls into a sonnet on “First Looking into Chapman’s Homer”; Osip Mandelstam reads “to the middle of the list of ships” before deciding “The sea—Homer—it’s all moved by love”; Dante’s Francesca and Paolo end up in hell’s second circle for reading a book too well together. Following their example, we’ll fall into reading, especially excerpts from classic texts. Through in-class writing prompts, we’ll generate portfolios of new work inspired by reading. Slanted toward poetry; all levels welcome.
