Narrative Time: A Workshop on Pacing and Plot [Michael Shilling]

Intermediate / Advanced | Flashbacks and flash-forwards, circular narrative and modular plotting, a protagonist’s amnesia and a moment stretched into pages—time interacts with story in so many ways. We’ll examine how to get time on your (narrative) side, looking at each other’s work with an eye to how time interacts with structure, character, and theme to best serve the tale you’re telling. We’ll also carefully examine the use of time in The Great Gatsby, discussing a few chapters each.
