Poetics of Objects [Kary Wayson]

William Carlos Williams famously coined the phrase “No ideas but in things” in the 1927 version of his poem “Paterson.” At the same time, in France, Francis Ponge was working hard at working hard, taking this credo to heart and also to the max. Ponge’s Mute Objects of Expression will act as our primary guide as we pick a single object and take it through an athletic series of exercises in order to get at its Inner Essence – or at least show our enthusiastic efforts to do so.
