Radical Essays and Personal Opinions [Madeline Ostrander]
DATE CHANGE: This class will now start on 11/9; there are no skip dates. This has been updated from the print catalog.
Introductory / Intermediate | Opinion-writing is one of the most powerful vehicles for using personal stories to inspire change. In this generative class, we’ll practice mining our experiences in order to craft opinion pieces that humanize our convictions. We’ll draw inspiration from writers like Rebecca Solnit, Kathryn Schulz, Ta-Nehisi Coates, and Dan Savage and from Louise Dunlap’s book, Undoing the Silence, about overcoming barriers that make us reluctant to speak out. Students will develop a draft of an opinion piece, essay, or pitch.
