Risk and Magic [Sara Brickman]
All Levels | Emily Dickinson said, “When I feel as though the top of my head has been taken off, I know that is poetry.” Whether what you want is a wild leap, a breakage in form, or vulnerable content, you first need to identify and trust your poetic voice. In this generative workshop, students will read and write alongside champion high-divers like Terrance Hayes, Ilya Kaminksy, Sam Sax, Ross Gay, and Sharon Olds. We’ll practice their moves and learn how to leap headfirst toward the unknown and land on our feet. Expect a supportive peer community, detailed feedback from the instructor, and the opportunity to write the poems you are afraid to write.
