Sara Freeman
I am a Montreal-born, US-based fiction writer. My debut novel Tides was published in January 2022 with Grove Press. My writing has appeared in The Sewanee Review, Literary Hub, Granta, Joyland, and Maisonneuve, among others. I bring to my consulting work over a decade’s worth of teaching: I have taught writing at Grubstreet, Emerson College, The Fashion Institute of Technology, and Columbia University.
As a writer, consultant, and coach, I am particularly interested in work that explores character at a psychological, interior, or subjective level. I also enjoy fiction, memoir, and essays that tackle themes of exile, sexuality, mental health, living between languages and cultures, domestic and family life. As a French and Spanish speaker who has lived in Quebec, Europe, Latin America, as well as the US, I am also keen to consult on work written by writers for whom English is not their mother tongue or on stories that are set abroad. Formally inventive or risk-taking projects also welcome!
