The Essay as Adventure [Christine Hemp]
All Levels | Floundering in subject matter you love? Stumped as to where it’s going? Relax. According to Brian Dillon, a good essay doesn’t have a template; it’s more adventure than form. Why else would the definition be “to attempt”? Dillon says an essay has the capacity to “instruct, seduce, and mystify in equal measure.” Leaping from stone to stone, you’ll discover how the writing itself guides you into uncharted territory, surprising you as much as the reader. Each participant will leave with a working draft of a new essay.
