The first fifty pages are critical for drawing in readers and keeping them engaged. That means balancing backstory, present action, and hints at what's to come. We'll discuss the basics of what should happen in these critical pages, look at examples of successful beginnings, and do lots of exercises to get down to the bones of developing credible characters and storylines you can flesh out throughout your novel or memoir. Students will workshop the first ten pages of their book.
