The Most Personal Essay
We’ll draft, workshop, and revise 1000-1500 word essays that delve deeply into the first person, focusing on structure, narrative voice, and scene. We'll learn to cultivate vulnerability without self-indulgence, sharing without oversharing. Participants will receive one-on-one editorial advice plus critique from fellow students, and leave with a polished essay. Essays from this class have later appeared in literary journals and major outlets including the New York Times; book deals have followed.
