The Most Personal Essay

In this class, we will draft, workshop, and revise 1,000-1,500 word essays that delve deeply into the first person, focusing on structure, narrative voice, and scene. We'll learn to cultivate vulnerability without self-indulgence, sharing without oversharing. Participants will receive one-on-one editorial advice, plus critique from fellow students, and leave with a polished essay. Essays from this class have later appeared in literary journals and major outlets, including the New York Times; book deals have followed.
