Online | The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie by Muriel Spark [Christopher Frizzelle]
VIDEO: This class will take place via video-conferencing (Zoom).
All Levels | A captivating story of betrayal, Muriel Spark’s 1961 novel The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie is a deceptively slim book that packs a punch. Time magazine and the Modern Library rank it as one of the 100 best novels of the 20th century, and the film adaptation won Maggie Smith an Academy Award (even though it’s not nearly as good as the book). We will read and discuss this hugely influential novel over several weeks, with optional writing exercises along the way inspired by Spark’s imagination. Students in this class will receive a book club discount on the instructor’s reading list at the Elliott Bay Book Co.
