The Sounds of Poetry [Jane Wong]
All Levels. Emily Dickinson writes of our aural power as poets: “As all the Heavens were a Bell, / And Being, but an Ear.” This course focuses on the craft of sound in poetry, from Dickinson’s slant rhymes to Kevin Young’s blues rhythms to Lo Kwa Mei-en’s repetition and cacophony. We will be reading and writing our own poems, paying close attention to sound and meter. Prepare to read and write out loud.
