Virginia Woolf’s Aquatic Poetic [Jeff Encke]
All Levels. Virginia Woolf’s imagination lurks in bodies of water. For Woolf, the sea symbolizes many things: the passage of biographical and historical time, the palimpsest quality of memory, the communal nature of consciousness and identity, the mysteries of birth and death. This six-week course will examine Woolf’s aquatic poetic through close readings of The Voyage Out, her first novel, and The Waves, one of her last.
