Writing Historical Fiction [Elise Hooper]

All Levels | Is there a historical figure or event that interests you? A story in your family’s past that’s begging to be told? A persistent “what if” about history that won’t stop nagging you? Let’s fire up our imaginations and investigative skills and get to work. In this class, we’ll explore the balance between fact and fiction by diving into history. Each week we’ll explore research strategies, hone our craft with writing exercises, share our work for feedback, and study and discuss the writing of Toni Morrison, Hilary Mantel, George Saunders, and others. By the end of these six weeks, you could have a draft of a short story or the start of a new longer piece.
