All Levels. You have the draft of a story, but all is chaos. You sense your material has no flow, no shape, no path to order. Enter the power of scene! Our mission: to create the internal and external logic of an entire story. We’ll do close readings to discover the machinery behind good scenes (including opening scenes); explore different ways to begin, propel, end, and link scenes to one another; and ponder how they can be used to achieve specific effects that shape the story itself. Participants will do in-class exercises and take-home assignments that will have the opportunity to be workshopped.
Due to COVID-19, all classes will take place online-either through Zoom or through Wet Ink, our asynchronous learning platform-through Spring quarter 2021.
All times are listed in Pacific Time.
