Revising the Short Story

All Levels | This eight-week intensive focuses on active, practical ways to revise short fiction. Students will bring a draft to class, and we will discuss concrete tactics of cutting, expanding, and “listening to” the work, all aimed at striking the electric core of the story. We’ll also spend time working with some of the revision strategies outlined in Craft in the Real World, Matthew Salesses’ new book about challenging the traditional writing workshop.

Beginning Fall 2021, we will be adding select in-person classes back to our course catalog. The majority of our classes will still be offered via Zoom.

If a class says IN-PERSON in its title, it will take place in person at our permanent home in Seattle.

If a class says ASYNCHRONOUS in its title, it will take place on Wet Ink, our asynchronous learning platform.

If a class does not have a marker after its title, it will take place via Zoom.
