Have you ever wanted to write a short story but aren’t sure how to go about it? Bring an idea — even a vague idea — to this course and learn how to turn it, step by step, into a story. With lectures, examples, and exercises, we will cover the basics of short story writing, including developing a plot, writing that first scene, creating interesting characters, intensifying conflict, writing the climax, and polishing the final draft. At each step, you will share your progress with — and get feedback from — the instructor and your beta-readers: the rest of the class.
Due to COVID-19, all classes will take place online-either through Zoom or through Wet Ink, our asynchronous learning platform-through Winter quarter 2021.
All times are listed in Pacific Time.
