In this workshop, we’ll read practitioners of classic realist fiction such as John Cheever and Eudora Welty as well as more recent figures including Mary Gaitskill, Russell Banks, and Jhumpa Lahiri and discover what uses the classically “well-made story” may have for us today. The class aims to interest both those who want to write the well-made story and those who want to critique the form. Each student will submit one story.
Due to COVID-19, all classes will take place online-either through Zoom or through Wet Ink, our asynchronous learning platform-through Spring quarter 2021.
All times are listed in Pacific Time.
