We’ll focus on the essential elements of the first ten pages of a memoir. What makes a reader (or editor!) want to keep reading? How do you quickly convey the essence of the story and grab the reader’s attention? What’s the difference between a prologue, a preface, and a first chapter? We’ll examine the first pages of popular and critically acclaimed memoirs and do some writing activities designed to help you with your memoir’s opening.
Due to COVID-19, all classes will take place online-either through Zoom or through Wet Ink, our asynchronous learning platform-through Spring quarter 2021.
All times are listed in Pacific Time.
