“Shin Yu Pai is my first reader, the person I trust most to look at one of my manuscripts and provide me with feedback (whether editorial, content-based or structural) that will bring it closer to finished book. She is rigorous, astute in her observations, and always respectful of the arc or trajectory she sees moving through a collection, preserving a vision while uncannily both shaping and sharpening it along the way. I rely on her always to see more clearly the direction toward which I am already heading. In this way, I think, she is an ideal and incisive reader; that has always been my (most fortunate) experience.” — Rick Benjamin, Poet Laureate of Rhode Island (2013-2017) See All

“Shin Yu Pai has the imagination, wit, and poetic dexterity of a resting samurai. I believe this sentiment to be germane to her essence. This is why I asked her to edit my first book of poetry Brackish Water, which was published in 2014 by Lawrence & Crane Press.” — Austin James, Faculty, Houston Community College

“This class was very well organized, yet spontaneous. Every class was fun and challenging. The assignments were also fun and challenging and thought-provoking. I absolutely loved this class and honestly think it’s the best and most rewarding that I’ve taken in college.” — SMU student

“Course was impressive and brought aspects of my writing I had not previously identified to the surface. Instructor was interested in our progress and took the time to read and comment on everything we submitted. Her comments were always helpful and worked towards strengthening our work.” — SMU student
