Calling all teen writers! Have you ever wanted to ham it up on stage as an MC for a youth open mic? Organize literary events and readings? Provide feedback and mentorship to other teen writers? Be an integral part of Seattle’s writing community and help shape the future of Richard Hugo House’s youth programs?
From November through June members of the Youth Leadership Board volunteer a minimum of 10 hours a month at Richard Hugo House on Capitol Hill…
- providing mentorship to other young writers
- promoting Hugo House youth programs around the city
- planning and hosting events
- brainstorming new programs and activities
- constructing a youth writers’ anthology
Earn community service! Members of the Youth Leadership Board gain an invaluable opportunity to cultivate personal leadership skills and become movers and shakers in Seattle’s writing community. You can also get 90+ community service hours for your work, free tickets to Hugo House events, and the chance to connect with other young writers, hone your craft, and give back to the community.
The Youth Leadership Board is selected on the basis of a written application and an in-person interview with Hugo House staff. We are looking for youth who have a passion for writing, an eye for organizing and planning events, the desire to work in a fun and collaborative team environment, and the ability to commit to a minimum of 10 volunteer hours/month from November through June.
The 2013-14 Youth Leadership Board has been selected! Check back in Fall 2014 to apply for next year’s YLB.
