The Slide Rule
The Slide Rule is a comics strip extravaganza where Seattle cartoonists project their works on a screen and read them before a live audience! Music, comedy, drama and visual art combine in a uniquely entertaining artistic event. Hosted in the past at the former Hugo House cafe, The Slide Rule now returns to the new space, featuring original and classic material. Please join us for this panel-to-panel, multimedia happening!
The Slide Rule is a group comics show, hosted periodically since the early 2000s by Davey Oil, with contributions from other Seattle cartoonists and animators, such as David Lasky, Stefan Gruber, and Scott Faulkner. While the concept of live comic strip readings is not unique (New York's Carousel shows are another example) The Slide Rule is uniquely Seattle, having been performed at the original Hugo House, Crocodile Cafe and other mainstay art spaces, with contributions from many Seattle cartoonists over the years. With a newly-burgeoning cartoonist scene in town, a renewed Slide Rule seeks to highlight this vibrant art form in a city with a rich tradition of comics and live performance.
The House bar will be open to serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
