Works in Progress (Virtual)
Works in Progress is Hugo House's open mic series inclusive of diverse formats and storytelling crafts. Read your work—poetry, fiction, essays, memoirs, plays, music, comedy, and more—and connect with our literary community!
We are actively cultivating a low-pressure, welcoming environment for readers and guests of all skill levels and literary experience. We especially encourage BIPOC, LGBTQIA2S+, and other marginalized voices to take the mic at Works in Progress.
How it works:
- Reading is open to all!
- You don't have to read. Guests and audience members encouraged to attend.
- The Zoom room is open 10 minutes before showtime.
- Sign-up is on a first-come basis and begins at check-in.
- There is a brief intermission, approximately 15 minutes, between the two groupings of readers.
We encourage your feedback on how we can continue to build a safer and more engaging environment at these events! Email us at welcome@hugohouse.org.
Collections—A Live Magazine and Public Club hosted by Ariel Basom is a monthly showcase of both live readers and video performances featuring a diversity of positions, styles, and modes: poetry juxtaposing story; literary fiction opposing memoir; drama next to genre fiction.
Do you want to be a part of this community? Do you want to be a reader? Show up to the event; introduce yourself; we are welcoming to all writers and hold space for new members of our public club.
We create an environment we can be proud of by treating ourselves and each other with high regard by leading with kindness and by wearing our favorite fancy clothes. We are not casually stumbling in but rather we show up as our best selves in order to present our best work.
Visit arielbasom.com/collections for monthly line-ups, more details, and archives of past collections.
The House bar will be open to serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
