Gail Folkins

Gail Folkins often writes about her deep roots in the American West. She has worked as a journalist, a writer and editor for companies and nonprofits, and as a college instructor. She grew up in the Pacific Northwest and has also lived in the Southwest and the Midwest. Folkins is the author of two creative nonfiction books from Texas Tech University Press: a nature memoir titled Light in the Trees (2016) and Texas Dance Halls: A Two-Step Circuit (2007). Folkins has a Ph.D. in English and has taught at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, St. Edward’s University (Austin), Austin Community College, and most recently at Hugo House in Seattle. She volunteers for Green Snoqualmie, an organization dedicated to restoring and maintaining forested parks and open spaces.
