Anca L. Szilágyi

Anca L. Szilágyi is the author of Daughters of the Air (Lanternfish Press, 2017), which Shelf Awareness called “a striking debut from a writer to watch,” and Dreams Under Glass (Lanternfish Press, 2022), which Newcity called "sensitive, unsettling" and "revelatory." Her short fiction appears in Lilith MagazineConfrontationFairy Tale Review, and elsewhere. Her nonfiction appears in Orion MagazineLos Angeles Review of Books, and Newsweek, among other publications. She is the recipient of awards and fellowships from Artist Trust, Vermont Studio Center, 4Culture, Lilith Magazine, Hugo House, and Jack Straw Cultural Center. Originally from Brooklyn, she has lived in Montreal, Seattle, and now Chicago.

She enjoys literary fiction, fabulism, magical realism, fairy tales, historic fiction, literature that looks outward to global issues (including in translation), literature that engages in other arts, food writing, lyric essays, and book reviews. Some favorite authors include Angela Carter, Mavis Gallant, Toni Morrison, Virginia Woolf, Jorge Luis Borges, Anton Chekhov, Laurie Colwin, Shirley Jackson, Jeannette Winterson, Elena Ferrante, Yoko Tawada, and Anne Carson.
